Russ Becker’s music career began as a fourth
grade clarinet student in the Stamford, CT public school system. He went on to receive a diploma in clarinet performance from
the Hartford Conservatory of Music, and continued clarinet studies with Richard DeBase and Kenneth Lagace, and saxophone studies
with Dr. Ken McIntyre (S.U.N.Y. Old Westbury).
A prominent instrumentalist, composer and teacher, Russ has been an active musician on the Connecticut
music scene for many years. He has been a member of the Stamford Symphony, the Hartford Civic Orchestra, Radio Piece 3, Collectively
Speaking Jazz Quartet , The Chris Leigh Trio, The Bob Hughes Big Band, The Art Cellar Sax Quartet, as well as musical theatre
orchestras and countless other ensembles covering a broad spectrum of musical genres.
He performs regularly as clarinetist with The Village Trio (chamber music), saxophonist
with the eclectic blues group Bop Tweed, The Russ Becker/ Stephen Roane Duo, and as leader of the Russ Becker Quartet. He
has released several albums of his own and has recorded often as a sideman and studio musician.
A
prolific composer, Russ’ music has been featured on WNET, local and regional television and radio, and has been
commissioned by theatre companies, churches, singers and instrumentalists.
He teaches clarinet and saxophone at the Russ Becker Woodwind Studio in Clinton, Ct and
is a faculty member at The Community Music School in Essex, Ct and String Theory Music School in E. Lyme, CT.
