The Russ Becker Woodwind Studio ends its Spring 2017 term on June 10th following a student musical and social get together on May 27th. There will be a limited Summer Session for select students, and an advanced clarinet group starting July 10th. Clarinet students seeking summer lessons must consult me prior to June 10th.
Looking ahead to the start of the new school year in September, the Fall 2017 term will begin September 11th and run through the 3rd week of December (see Teaching Studio).
The Russ Becker/Stephen Roane Duo just completed an ambitious project of selecting, arranging and recording thirteen pieces composed by American Jazz masters Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn (see album below) and are getting some incredibly positive feedback about both the unique arrangements and the performance. They are pleased to be premiering their interpretations of these intensely beautiful and sophisticated works on Saturday, July 1st, at 2:00 p.m. at the Henry Carter Hull Library in Clinton, CT. A great way to begin an All American holiday weekend celebrating the birth of our nation!
The Flying Particles trio of Bob Nasta, Kevin O'Neil and Russ Becker will be performing music to accompany poetry of the Japanese Zen Buddhist Monk, Ryokan Taigu (1758-1831), on Wednesday evening, May 17th, at 7:30 p.m. at Hubbard House in Middletown CT. Two special guests, Wendy Black Nasta, Director of Artists for World Peace, and actor/radio personality, Richard Kamins, will add their voices reciting these beautiful poems. All proceeds go to benefit the charitable organization "Artists for World Peace". A new recording by the Flyng Particles, with guest artist, Miles Nasta on percussion, is scheduled for release this summer.
Once again, thank you to the many of you who responded to my poetic tribute to President Obama (see Lyrics & Poetry) earlier this year. I wrote a musical score for voice and instruments that was to be performed in May, but am now rewriting for full choir and chamber ensemble and am thrilled this will be conducted by John Lame and performed at the Morgan School in Clinton in the fall as part of a program of works by distinctly American composers. Details will be posted in September.
If you are not on my mailing list for performance, recording, or teaching updates, please get in touch by going to my Contact page.
I also continue to perform and compose music in a variety of styles and settings, and have recently been blessed with some fine performances of my original chamber music and requests to write more. In addition to concert settings, my music has been written and performed for weddings, bar mitzvahs, holiday settings, poems, love letters, and more. A unique, original, and special piece of music is the ultimate addition for a unique and special occasion or event. Contact me to discuss the possibilities!
Please check out our Calendar for the array of shows, concerts and other musical festivities happening this season.
