Great original music, recordings, jazz and classical music performing ensembles and music instruction by one of Connecticut's most respected teachers are all here at russbecker.com.
Welcome to russbecker.com.
It is always a pleasure to announce the start up of the Spring Term schedule here at the Russ Becker Woodwind Studio at the end of a long winter. I have extended the winter lessons one week to offset the missed lessons due to weather cancellations. The Spring Term will now start April 3rd and run ten consecutive weeks through June 10th for private students and clarinet groups. See my Teaching Studio page for details.
I am pleased to announce that guitarist, Steve Roane, and I ("The Duo") are in the process of writing unique arrangements and recording a dozen works by American Jazz Master composers Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, and will be releasing our new album in April followed by some live performances. This recording will mark our seventh album since releasing The Black Foal in 2006. Time sure does fly when you're having fun!
The Flying Particles trio with Bob Nasta and Kevin O'Neil continues to flourish with exciting new music and projects. We are currently working on a musical score to the silent film, "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", starring the late, great, John Barrymore, and will be releasing another new recording to follow the success of our album, "Silver Buddha". The offer for a free copy of this CD (see below) in exchange for a donation to "The Artists For World Peace" remains in effect. Thank you to the many who have contributed so far.
I offer my sincere thanks to the many folks that responded so positively to the poetic tribute I wrote for President Barack Obama and featured on my latest music update "Captain of Hope" (see Lyrics & Poetry page). I've composed a score for two voices and five instrumentalists, setting the poem to music, and plan on performing it Thursday evening May 4th at the Morgan School here in Clinton CT in collaboration with Conductor John Lampe. Please watch for confirmation and details.
If you are not on my mailing list for performance, recording, or teaching updates, please get in touch by going to my Contact page.
I also continue to perform and compose music in a variety of styles and settings, and have recently been blessed with some fine performances of my original chamber music and requests to write more. In addition to concert settings, my music has been written and performed for weddings, bar mitzvahs, holiday settings, poems, love letters, and more. A unique, original, and special piece of music is the ultimate addition for a unique and special occasion or event. Contact me to discuss the possibilities!

New York Times Review
By Bruce Buschel
"... You may never have heard of this Connecticut quartet or their blues grooves, but you'd swear otherwise. They create a familiar earthy sound rather than launching virtuosic moonshots. Think Grover Washington, Jr. meets Stevie Ray Vaughan in their mellowest of moods."
